Maryvale Annual Giving

Hi Alumnae,
I am writing tonight from Maryvale's Phonothon. It's great to be back! I'm in the Seminar Room with other alumnae, parents and students who are all reaching out to Maryvale's friends and family to ask for Annual Fund gifts.

It is important for all classes to increase participation levels. Many grants are given based on alumnae participation. Even a small donation of $10.00 or $25.00 would make a huge difference.

I make an Annual Fund gift to thank Maryvale for all the good times we had.

Maryvale General Meeting

A fabulous group of Maryvale Alumnae gathered for a meeting in the castle in mid September. Newsworthy agenda included:
1.) Homecoming Dodge Ball Classic on September 25
2.) Book Club with Miss Malone on October 20
3.) Open House on November 6
4.) Phone-a-thon in late October/ early November- contact the Alumnae Association if you'd like to volunteer!
5.) Christmas Bazaar on December 4

We will be reading "Brooklyn" by Colim Tobin. Once again, Ms, Carol Malone has graciously agreed to moderate our discussion of the book and its themes- and as usual, we except lively conversation.

Even if you haven't finished the entire book, come join us for a fun night in the castle! We look forward to seeing you there!

An Alaskan Adventure with a Maryvale Friend!

This summer I went on an Alaskan cruise with my husband, and, in true Maryvale fashion, I met a new friend who just happened to have graduated in years past! Amy (who is pictured on the left) lives in Baltimore with her husband, Brian- and Brian works with my husband, Greg. Small world! Even though Maryvale is a small school...you just never know who you will meet on your next vacation- even if it's all the way across the country (or the world)!

Has anyone had a similar experience? Are there any Maryvale girls out there who vacation together? We'd love to hear!

First Annual Dodge Ball Classic

It really shouldn't have surprised me that Wikipedia would have noticed our small (but mighty!) prep school. Maybe, I even should have expected they would have had our school colors listed. But our school song? WOW. That was a bit unexpected!

Well done, Wiki!

But, in an effort to keep the information on the internet as accurate as possible, I think it might be time to tell the folks at Wiki that they messed up a word in said school song. Haven't they? Tell me what you think!

Toast in the Castle!

Maryvale alumnae gathered in the castle for a meeting on the evening of June 16, 2010. After the new board slate was approved and general notes were shared, the group toasted to an exciting beginning! We thank the now Past President, Kate Nolan '00, Secretary, Laura Narango '99, and Treasurer Erin Brooks Hoyle '96, for their hard work and commitment over the past two years.
The new members include President Jen Hanley Armstrong '00 (returning from her position as Vice President), Vice President Megan Higdon '02, Secretary Evie Uhlfelder '99, and Treasurer Mulligan Burns '01. Kate Nolan will step in as Past President to guide and support the new board members. A newly created Class Representative Liaison position has been established to connect the board with the current class representatives. These new members are Linsay Caldwell '02 and Maeve McKew '05.

This summer the board will be working on a calendar mailing for current alumnae of exciting events for the 2010-2011 school year. These include all general meetings, book clubs with Ms. Malone, cocktail party, and a new event- the Dodge Ball Classic! Stay tuned!

Class of 2000 Reunion!

Maryvale's Class of 2000 celebrated their ten year reunion in the castle this weekend. Warm spring weather, a beautiful spread of brunch foods, and a slideshow and Maryvale memorobilia were on display. The girls had a fabulous time reminiscing and look forward to returning to Maryvale in the near future!
